The »International Film Music Symposium Vienna« will take place again on October 16^th, 2019 as a side event of »Hollywood in Vienna« at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

On the occasion of the presentation of the »Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award« to Oscar winning composer Gabriel Yared, we welcome one of the most extraordinary composers of our time.

GABRIEL YARED has composed music for more than 100 movies. His greatest successes include his Oscar-winning score for THE ENGLISH PATIENT, French classics such as BETTY BLUE and L’AMANT as well as Hollywood blockbusters such as the Nicholas Cage film CITY OF ANGELS, THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY with Matt Damon as well as COLD MOUNTAIN with Jude Law and Nicole Kidman.

Gabriel Yared himself will give a detailed insight into his work within a Masterclass for composers and musicians on October 15^th.

Furthermore, we will be addressing educational possibilities in film music and the question of all questions: ”How to make money as a film composer?”. Additionally, we will focus on composing music for TV documentaries such as Blue Planet, Planet Earth, Universum and musical comedies.

With 7 Oscar nominations, numerous Grammys, Emmys & Tonys, Shaiman is one of the most successful film and musical composers on Broadway and in Hollywood. Marc Shaiman composed and arranged unforgettable songs for legends like Barbara Streisand, Whoopie Goldberg, Jennifer Holiday and many more.

RALF WENGENMAYR

Composer for Michael “Bully Herbig films

Ralf Wengenmair has been composing for the films of Michael Herbig (Der Schuh des Manitu, (T)Raumschiff Periode I, Bully Parade) for more than 20 years and is one of the most important film music composers in the German-speaking world.

Due to his classical film music style, Wengenmayr is often referred to as “the German John Williams.

The soundtrack to Wickie und die Starken Männer also earned him a nomination for the renowned German Film Award.
