FIMU — Film Music Symposium Vienna 2019

The »Inter­na­tion­al Film Music Sym­po­sium Vien­na« will take place again on Octo­ber 16th, 2019 as a side event of »Hol­ly­wood in Vien­na« at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Music and Per­form­ing Arts Vien­na.

On the occa­sion of the pre­sen­ta­tion of the »Max Stein­er Film Music Achieve­ment Award« to Oscar win­ning com­pos­er Gabriel Yared, we wel­come one of the most extra­or­di­nary com­posers of our time.

GABRIEL YARED has com­posed music for more than 100 movies. His great­est suc­cess­es include his Oscar-win­ning score for THE ENGLISH PATIENT, French clas­sics such as BETTY BLUE and L’AMANT as well as Hol­ly­wood block­busters such as the Nicholas Cage film CITY OF ANGELS, THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY with Matt Damon as well as COLD MOUNTAIN with Jude Law and Nicole Kid­man.

Gabriel Yared him­self will give a detailed insight into his work with­in a Mas­ter­class for com­posers and musi­cians on Octo­ber 15th.

Fur­ther­more, we will be address­ing edu­ca­tion­al pos­si­bil­i­ties in film music and the ques­tion of all ques­tions: ”How to make mon­ey as a film com­pos­er?”. Addi­tion­al­ly, we will focus on com­pos­ing music for TV doc­u­men­taries such as Blue Plan­et, Plan­et Earth, Uni­ver­sum and musi­cal come­dies.

Mary Pop­pins, Hair­spray, Sis­ter Act and The Addams Fam­i­ly are just a few of the many world suc­cess­es for which Marc Shaiman con­tributed his award-win­ning music. With 7 Oscar nom­i­na­tions, numer­ous Gram­mys, Emmys & Tonys, Shaiman is one of the most suc­cess­ful film and musi­cal com­posers on Broad­way and in Hol­ly­wood. Marc Shaiman com­posed and arranged unfor­get­table songs for leg­ends like Bar­bara Streisand, Whoop­ie Gold­berg, Jen­nifer Hol­i­day and many more.

RALF WENGENMAYR

Com­pos­er for Michael “Bul­ly” Her­big films

Ralf Wen­gen­mair has been com­pos­ing for the films of Michael Her­big (Der Schuh des Man­i­tu, (T)Raumschiff Peri­ode I, Bul­ly Parade) for more than 20 years and is one of the most impor­tant film music com­posers in the Ger­man-speak­ing world.

Due to his clas­si­cal film music style, Wen­gen­mayr is often referred to as “the Ger­man John Williams”.

The sound­track to Wick­ie und die Starken Män­ner also earned him a nom­i­na­tion for the renowned Ger­man Film Award.
